Acoustic resonance testing
The Modal Shop

Grupo CTT is an authorized distributor of NDT-RAM acoustic resonance inspection systems for non-destructive detection of structural defects.

What is acoustic resonance testing (NDT-RAM)?

Acoustic resonance testing is a non-destructive testing (NDT) method used to detect internal defects and variations in density or stiffness within solid components.

By impacting a part and recording its acoustic response, the system compares its resonance signature to a reference baseline. Any deviation may indicate cracks, porosity, incomplete sintering, or structural defects.

A fast, repeatable, and fully automatable technique, ideal for in-line quality control in continuous production environments.

Non-Destructive Testing
Solutions by The Modal Shop

The Modal Shop specializes in acoustic resonance testing systems
designed for 100% inspection without surface preparation or
destructive methods. These systems ensure part integrity and full
measurement traceability.

NDT-RAM Automated Test
System (RAM-AUTO)

Fully automated system for high-volume production lines in automotive, foundry, and powder metallurgy applications.

NDT-RAM Drop Test System
(RAM-DROP)

Automated solution for small or irregularly shaped parts. Uses controlled impact and high-precision acoustic analysis to detect cracks and density variations.

NDT-RAM Semi-Automated
Test System (RAM-SEMI)

Semi-automated system for validation processes, mid-volume batches, or integration into existing test stations.

NDT-RAM Workstation / Fixture System (RAM-TEST-FIXTURE)

Configurable workstation for laboratory use or low-volume production. Designed to analyze parts of varying sizes and materials.

NDT-RAM Portable / Manual System (RAM-TEST-MANUAL)

Portable or benchtop system for spot testing or development applications. Ideal for engineering environments, prototype validation, and quality audits

Advantages of acoustic resonance testing

  • 100% inspection with analysis times measured in seconds.
  • Compatible with metallic, ceramic, and composite components.
  • Full traceability and digital storage of inspection results.
  • Easy integration into automated production lines.
  • Technical guidance from Grupo CTT for selecting the right system for your process.

Materials and Components Compatible
with NDT-RAM Technology

NDT-RAM can be applied to a wide range of materials and geometries, including both metallic and non-metallic parts. The method is sensitive to variations in stiffness, mass, and density.

Ferrous and non-ferrous metals:
steels, cast iron, aluminum, titanium, and specialty alloys

Ceramics and composites:
advanced materials used in braking systems, filtration, and structural components

Sintered components:
Compacted or heat-treated parts where porosity and density control are critical.

Cast and molded parts:
discs, gears, connecting rods, engine blocks, and complex geometries.

Machined or surface-treated parts:
where material uniformity and coating adhesion are critical

Hybrid or laminated materials:
applications where layered structures may generate distinct resonance responses.
